Rita Henderson, Chapter President
Greetings from James River Valley (VA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated! We thank you for exploring our website to learn more about our organization and our chapter.
The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of over 15,000 professional women of color in 288 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the United Kingdom. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.
Chartered in 1983, the James River Valley Links have been serving and strengthening communities in the greater greater Richmond area for more than 38 years. Our chapter activities have impacted education (higher and K-12), health care, voter education, elder well-being, advocacy on behalf of victims of abuse, and promoting youth in the arts. Most recently the chapter has channeled much of its integrated program efforts to STEM, the arts, and health and human services. . Our signature service programs include: the area’s first Links-NSBE Jr. chapter,, the first Jamaican NSBE Jr. chapter, an endowment at Virginia Union University, voter education workshops and registration drives, Be the Match bone marrow drives, diabetes prevention seminars, and financial support to artistically gifted students.
We celebrated our 40th anniversary in March 2023, with a special event, Off the Wall and Onto the Stage: Dancing the Art of Jonathan Green, performed by the Columbia City Ballet, at the iconic Carpenter Theater at the Dominion Energy Center for Performing Arts. The event also included acclaim vocalist Desireé Roots and the historic First African Baptist Church Gospel Choir. Nearly 1200 people were in attendance.
With sincere appreciation, the James River Valley Chapter would like to acknowledge and thank you for your support in our endeavors as we vigorously seek to cultivate and advance the lives of others. We encourage you to become one of our partners in service.
Yours in Friendship and Service,
Rita Henderson .
